Chief Medical Officer
BRENTWOOD, Tennessee—January 5, 2015—HealthTrust℠ announces the appointment of Michael J. Schlosser, M.D., FAANS, as chief medical officer (CMO) for the organization. Dr. Schlosser is a board-certified neurosurgeon whose clinical practice focused primarily on complex spine surgery and surgical neuro-oncology. He will report to Ed Jones, HealthTrust’s president and CEO, beginning February 2, 2015.
In making the announcement, Jones stated, “A patients’ first philosophy has been part of HealthTrust’s DNA since our inception. We’ve been fortunate to have had powerful input from a number of our physician members as well as several consulting physician specialists, lending both support and guidance to our clinical initiatives. Adding a full-time CMO is a continued investment in advancing a clinical agenda that supports our member providers and the outcomes so critical to their success,” Jones added. “The CMO will also bring a new level of expertise to clinical value analysis—increasingly a critical part of the way medical supplies and, in particular, physician preference items are selected and sourced. Dr. Schlosser will be working to expand opportunities for physician engagement in purchasing decisions through his leadership of the HealthTrust Physician Steering Committee, as well as through service line strategies across our member facilities.”
Dr. Schlosser previously served in leadership roles at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, including Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery. Prior to accepting the position of CMO for HealthTrust, he worked as medical director for Parallon Supply Chain Solutions, assisting in the development of evidence-based and physician-led approaches to hospital supply decisions. Dr. Schlosser received his M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine and completed his neurosurgery residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. He is currently pursuing an MBA at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Business.
